Top Dollar Brought at World Dairy Expo® Breed Sales

MADISON, WIS. – Records were set during the 2017 World Dairy Expo Breed Sales as top dollar bids were taken during the 51st event. Buyers from around the world battled for the many world-class cattle and embryos sold during the five-day show. Following are the highlights from each of the six breed sales held throughout WDE.   

Top of the World Jersey Sale: Wednesday, October 4
The Top of the World Jersey Sale took place on Wednesday, October 4 in the Estrumate Sale Pavilion. Buyer Pacific Edge – Brent Rocha, Tillamook, Ore., put a price of $7,200 on this year’s highest-selling consignment, Intense Gentry Priceless. Priceless was consigned by Clark Valley and Tim Natzke, Fond du Lac, Wis., and was the second-place Fall Yearling Heifer in the 2017 International Jersey Show. The second-high seller of the night was Pine-Tree Tux Della 1572-ET, consigned by Matthew Steiner, Marshallville, Ohio, and purchased by Vierra Dairy Farms, Hilmar, Calif., for $6,200. The 37 lots averaged $2,886 with a sale total of $106,800. Buyers represented 12 U.S. states and two countries.

World Ayrshire Event Sale: Wednesday, October 4
The World Ayrshire Event was held on Wednesday, October 4, with lot one, Stillmore Gentle Ina, as the high seller. Ina was consigned by Stillmore Cattle Co. – Steve Searles, Pine Island, Minn., and purchased by Mike Beltz, Lake City, Minn. for $7,900. Drafted consignment, Hi-Ayr-View Free Beer Me, was the second-high seller to buyers Hayley and Audrey Souze, Milbank, S.D. for $7,600. Free Beer Me was consigned by Down and Dirty and KCCK, St. Mabel, Minn. after she was named first-place Four-Year-Old Cow in the 2017 International Junior Ayrshire Show. The twenty lots put on the auction block totaled $68,580 with the live lots averaging $3,889.

World Premier Brown Swiss Sale: Thursday, October 5
The World Premier Brown Swiss Sale filled the Estrumate Sale Pavilion to standing room only on Thursday, October 5. Consigned by Nor-Bert Farms in Bremen, Ind., the high selling lot was Nor-Bert Bivre Sassy, who sold for $9,000 to Pine Tree Dairy, Marshallville, Ohio. The second highest lot, Top Acres J Windy-ET, consigned by Wayne Sliker, St. Paris, Ohio, and purchased by Meier Meadows Dairy, Ill., followed closely behind at $8,600. A total of 31 live lots were sold, with half being calves six-months-old or younger, for a sale total of $154,950 and averaging $4,998 per lot. The buyers represented ten U.S. states, three Canadian provinces and Peru.

World Premier Milking Shorthorn Sale: Thursday, October 5
The World Premier Milking Shorthorn Sale was held on Thursday, October 5, with fourteen lots averaging $3,250 for a sale total of $42,250. Elron Zeus Whitley-EXP-ET, the third-place winter calf in the 2017 International Milking Shorthorn Show, was the high seller at $5,700 to buyers C&C Genetics and Elron Farms, Lancaster, Wis. Whitley was consigned by Elron Farms of Lost Nation, Iowa. Innisfail-WO Julius Lucy was the second highest lot, sold to Jeff MacKissik of New Castle, Pa. for $5,400 and consigned by Katie Bue and Stuart Rowe, Alma Center, Wis. Buyers at this sale represented five U.S. states.

International Guernsey Classic: Friday, October 6
The International Guernsey Classic was held Friday, October 6 at World Dairy Expo. With 34 lots, the high-seller, Nicleys HP GG Corbell Anne-ETV, was sold to Westcoast Holsteins, Chilliwack, B.C., for $9,100. Consigned by Hillpoint, Daniel Basse and Morey Miller of Cross Plains, Wis., Anne was the winning Fall Heifer Calf and Junior Champion Female in both the 2017 International Junior and Open Guernsey Shows. Rounding out the top pair was Sniders HP GG Lonestar Amazing-ETV, consigned by Hillpoint, Snider Homestead and Daniel Basse, Cross Plains, Wis., and purchased by Amazing Syndicate, Chicago, Ill., for $8,500. The 34 lots sold to buyers in 11 U.S. states and three countries for a total of $122,775, with an average of $3,733 for the 26 live lots.

World Classic ’17 Sale: Friday, October 6
The World Classic ’17 ended the Expo Breed Sales in show-stopping fashion. Beginning the event under the spotlight and ending with a record breaking $2.1 million in total sales, the World Classic ’17 once again offered a combination of pageantry and an elite line-up of Holstein cattle. Topping the sale, for a price of $620,000, was Mr Frazzled Aristocrat-ET, a young bull purchased by Diamond Genetics of The Netherlands. The second-highest selling lot was Leaninghouse Mdsty 23039-ET, consigned by Rock Hill Dairy LLC, Dexter, N.M., and purchased by De Novo Genetics, DeForest, Wis. for $205,000. The 51 lots averaged $41,469 with buyers representing 16 U.S. states, three Canadian provinces and four countries.
